Can we correlate a contraceptive PILL with the WOMEN’S LIBERATION in the 20th Century?

‘The Pill’, a wonderful drug and a miracle of the 20th century was first approved for contraception in the US in the 1960’s. The CONTRACEPTIVE pills is a very popular form of Birth Control system and these pills are currently used by more than 100 million women worldwide.

Two types of female oral contraceptive pills are available:

One type of oral contraceptive pill contains a combination of estrogen and a progestogen and is taken once per day and the2nd type contains only progestogen and is also taken once daily.

Combined oral contraceptive pills (COCPs) were developed to prevent egg formation (ovulation) by suppressing the release of responsible hormones gonadotropins. These pills inhibit ovulation as their primary mechanism of action.

This PILL has become a MANTRA of a liberated life for the 21st century woman who puts the load of unwanted conception off her mind, but in her busy life she, perhaps isn’t finding any time to stop.

The most common side effect is breakthrough bleeding.

As many as 50 per cent of first-timers discontinue the Pill before the end of the first year because of nuisance of irregular bleeding, breakthrough bleeding and amenorrhea. Also, blood clots are a serious side effect of the pill. Blood clots will show a different picture depending on the part of the body where they form.

Some of these symptoms are

Tenderness or swelling of the legs;

Sudden chest pain or shortness of breath,

Partial or complete loss of vision or blackouts;

Numbness in any part of the body.
