So many areas in Krishna , Guntoor districts including Vijayawada city got drowned..

The flood situation in Andhra Pradesh continued to be hazardous  as the Krishna river breached its embankment at a few places, inundating dozens of villages and making thousands of people  home less in Krishna and Guntur districts. The floods, marked as the worst in 100 years, have claimed more than  50 lives and affected over 1.5 million people among the flood-hit districts.

The flood waters entered in areas like Bhavanipuram Ramlingeswaranagar ,etc., in Vijayawada city … also dozens of island villages like Kummaripalem, K.kottha palem, etc.,in Krishna district and Amaravathi, Bhattiprolu, etc., in  Guntur district got swallowed completely . Though majority of the people had already moved to safer places, authorities  and army force rescued the remaining people through boats and landed them safely .

Residents of other villages facing threat of inundation are being warned to move immediately to safer places. The govt. authorities in the two districts have already evacuated 250,000 people from over 200 villages and parts of Vijayawada city, which too faces a threat due to the zooming level of water in Prakasam barrage.

The water level in Prakasam barrage in Vijayawada city Tuesday rised to more than  21 feet to against its full reservoir level of 23 feet. The inflows reached a record of more than 11 lakh cusecs .. threatening the villages surrounded it.

The destruction to infrastructure and crops has been massive. Initially the losses  estimated nearly at Rs.12,000 crore. The state government has urged the centre to declare the floods a national calamity and provide an immediate assistance of Rs 6,000 crore for relief and rehabilitation of the affected districts.

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah  held a teleconference with collectors of flood-hit districts and asked officials of Krishna and Guntur districts to be on alert for the next 36 hours and monitor the situation .
